Vulkan Brauerei

Tradition of brewing since 1875

The deepest fermentation cellar of the world – 30 meter under the earth – is placed under the Vulkan brewery in Mendig, Germany. The basalt vault, which was built after the eruption of a volcano, was used as cooling and storage building by 28 breweries in Mendig. In 1876 the cooling unit was invented. Many breweries moved back to their old location or closed their business. All but one: the Vulkan brewery. The only operational cooling building is now placed under the Vulkan brewery and is used for storing special beers.

After the new construction of the brewery by BrauKon at the beginning of 2012, the old brewhouse was converted to a museal exhibit. So the long tradition of the Vulkan brewery will always remain in focus.
